It’s a bit dark and sad and funny, but totally worth your time.
The story can be summarized by Max’s line: “It’s hard being a family.” To me, the underlying theme was families — those we’re born into, and those pseudo-families we form. Max follows his statement by saying, “I wish you guys [the wild things] had a mom.” Well put, because yes, it’s hard to be a good, strong family at times, but we all need moms.
I want kids like Max.

Academy Awards winner of Best Documentary Feature: “Man on Wire”
Philippe Petit is captivating. And “Man on Wire” is one of the best documentaries I’ve seen.
The implications the film has on the history of the Twin Towers are interesting. When watching, note that Septemember 11 is never mentioned.
A quote from the director on the topic from BBC News’ article:
“What Philippe did was incredibly beautiful. It may have been illegal, but it was not in any way destructive. It would be unfair and wrong to infect his story with any mention, discussion or imagery of the Towers being destroyed.”
Petit’s acceptance speech for the Oscar:

Text I got just now (from the girl I lived with in NYC this past summer):
Ryan reynolds lives in the new yorker in definitely maybe
And now suddenly I feel this strange desire to see “Definitely, Maybe,” a movie of which I have previously made fun. I lived in the New Yorker, too!

right now I should be: writing a paper on the similarities and differences between Woody Allen’s A Midsummer Night’s Sex Comedy and Manhattan
instead I am: watching the opening scene of Manhattan over and over again
I miss New York.
If you love New York or want to love New York, watch Manhattan. It has been touted as “a love song to New York” and it is. Watch the following for proof.
Check back soon for a list of the Woody Allen films I have seen in order of my preference of them.
Paris, Je T’aime is one of my favorite movies. It’s set in a city I love, comprised of short films (which I love) and it has great actors.
The unofficial follow up project, New York, I Love You, is set to be released Februrary 13, 2009. (Please someone, take me on a Valentine’s Day date to this movie.) The cast includes Rachel Bilson, Orlando Bloom, Natalie Portman, Christina Ricci, Hayden Christensen and Shia LaBeouf. I can’t wait!
New York magazine did a short bit on it. If you’re interested, it’s here.
