“…When I worry, I deny that you are the Lord of my circumstances.
When I turn my head from the hungry and the homeless, I deny that you are a God of mercy who has put me here to be your hands and feet.
When I steal something from another person to enrich or enhance my life–whether it be something material or some credit that is rightly due another, which I have claimed for myself–I deny you are the source of all blessings.
Forgive me, Jesus, for all those quiet ways, known only to you, in which I have denied you.
…And thank you, most faithful of friends, that no matter how terribly I have failed you, I can always look into your eyes and there find forgiveness…”
— Ken Gire
On more personal note, I’m going on a missions trip to Jamaica. Leaving Saturday, back Saturday. It’s a little up in the air about what we’ll be doing, but it sounds like we’ll be working with all ages and types of people.
I know I’ll be challeneged in all senses — physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually.
If you pray, your prayers are appreciated.

Yes, little Vivitar Ultra Wide and Slim, I still love you.
I still love you even though I’ve been too busy to take pictures with you lately.

Academy Awards winner of Best Documentary Feature: “Man on Wire”
Philippe Petit is captivating. And “Man on Wire” is one of the best documentaries I’ve seen.
The implications the film has on the history of the Twin Towers are interesting. When watching, note that Septemember 11 is never mentioned.
A quote from the director on the topic from BBC News’ article:
“What Philippe did was incredibly beautiful. It may have been illegal, but it was not in any way destructive. It would be unfair and wrong to infect his story with any mention, discussion or imagery of the Towers being destroyed.”
Petit’s acceptance speech for the Oscar:

Text I got just now (from the girl I lived with in NYC this past summer):
Ryan reynolds lives in the new yorker in definitely maybe
And now suddenly I feel this strange desire to see “Definitely, Maybe,” a movie of which I have previously made fun. I lived in the New Yorker, too!

Another superb issue of Mankind Mag. I’ve been blessed to be part of it… Buy the issue. It’s cheap and comes as an interactive PDF. We’re saving paper here, folks.
I had two articles in this month.
First: Feature on Amir Fallah. Publisher of BEAUTIFUL/DECAY magazine and a great artist. The theme of forts running through his work captivated me.
Excerpt from Fortnotes:
Nighttime, sheets, couch cushions, clothespins, flashlight. All the makings for a good childhood fort. Add a few lamps, some rope and a professional aesthetic and you’ve got yourself a fort built for a king… specifically Amir Fallah, that is. And trust us— there’s nothing childlike about it…
Second: Interview with Vance Lessard. Photographer under the name 2 AM.
Excerpt from two a.m.:
Vance Lessard — aka the power behind 2am Photography — is the master of nighttime photo capturing. His love for those wee hours when the sun is down was piqued early on by the lat- 50s childrens’ book Sam and the Firefly. Just as Sam the owl comes out when the moon is up, so does Vance. Now all grown up, his first serious attempts at nighttime photography take place along East Broadway in Tempe, Arizona.
[Hi Ellie, Charli and Jen!]
Blogging is a weird deal. As a journalism student interested in the Web, I think the way I blog is unlike most of my peers. This blog might be taking a more personal turn on topics in the coming days. Watch it. This will be discussed more.
In the past year, I have felt such a strong yearning within myself to adopt some day. It all started when I began following the blog of a woman in my hometown church, Jody Landers, as she and her husband went through the process of adopting twins from Sierra Leone. Though my clicking, I’ve found many of blogs — a whole blogging community of adoptive mothers. It feels strange to feel this way as as single 21-year-old college student. I just don’t quite fit in with them, but…
I get tears in my eyes almost every time I watch videos like these posted below. I can’t think of anything else that has stirred such emotion in me in a long time.
